The Teut is located in the NE part of Zonhoven, enclosed between the E314 and the
railway Genk Houthalen. The area is large 302ha. The area is divided into three parts:
the coniferous forests, moors and fens with the associated stream the Roosterbeek.
The coniferous forests consist mainly of pine and Corsican pine. In the stands of
conifers is much undergrowth of heather and lavender herbs. Along the marshes and
on the wet pieces one finds among others cinquefoil, bog asphodel and lint. The associated
forest consists mainly of alder with a rich undergrowth of shrubs and herbs. In terms
of fauna, especially the nightjar and the kestrel. There are several hiking trails
in the reserve.
